Sientific Meeting, 26th and 27th January 2007, Paris

NASCENT ScientistsNASCENT Scientists met in Paris in January to discuss the project and the organisation of the training and transfer of knowledge activities. The meeting was held at the Scientific Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences, an excellent venue for this purpose as it offered a well equipped conference room as well as accommodation for all the Scientists. All participants were impressed by the high standards of the venue and found the sculpture head of Marie Curie a very interesting addition. Each participant gave a presentation, highlighting their expertise and their envisaged role in the project. One of the significant outcomes of the meeting was the new role for CiS in the project, that has led to changes in the ER expertise that the partner will seek. In addition to this the roles of each partner in the project were discussed and this led to the organisation of the first round of secondments that will take place between April and September 2007.

The members of the Transfer of Knowledge (TOK) group, K. Haupt (CNRS), M.Watkinson (QMUL) and L. Gheber (BGU) discussed the best way to facilitate the secondments. It was agreed that the input of the ESR and ER was highly desirable and therefore it was decided to have a specific area of the website, accessible to the ESR and ER, containing specific information regarding each team, such as resources available, equipment and techniques, accommodation details, suitable times during the year when secondment is facilitated and others. This would allow the researchers to discuss with their supervisors the placements that are more suitable for their training.

All the participants attended the evening dinner at the Kleber Brasserie restaurant, and were happy to taste French specialities. Further discussions continued during Saturday morning and the last couple of hours were spent discussing administrative matters and financial issues.

All participants agreed that the Meeting had been very useful and contributed to the establishment of closer cooperation. The next scientific meeting would take place in September, during the First Nascent International Meeting.
