First NASCENT International Meeting, 10-12 September 2007, London

NASCENT TeamOn Sunday 9th September 2007, the researchers were joined by their Supervisors and other colleagues for a three days International Meeting. Dr Resmini opened the meeting and all researchers from the NASCENT Network as well as other researchers working with Partners gave presentations on their projects, future work and actively discussed the collaborations between the different teams.

The NASCENT group welcomed Professor A.J. Kirby, FRS from Cambridge University who delivered a very enlightening lecture on enzyme mimics. Professor Kirby is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of NASCENT and in this capacity, he spent some time with the ERs and ESRs talking about their experiences and the progression of their careers.

The social program included an evening dinner at ‘Venus in the park’, on the Mile End road on Monday 10th September, followed by a dinner Cruise on the River Thames on Tuesday 11th September. All the participants were enthusiastic and also very impressed that the Network Coordinator, Dr Marina Resmini, had managed to organise eleven days without rain and with pretty mild temperatures, after a dreadful English summer! This was a very enjoyable event for all the participants and has hopefully established a trend that will be continued in the next three years with the other Network events.
