Rita Jorge

Rita JorgeRita was born in 1978 in Lisbon , where she lived for most of her life. After secondary school she worked for a short time in Air Liquide, where she grew a strong interest in Chemistry.

Rita then moved to UNESCO's World heritage city of Évora to do her Chemistry University degree from 1998 to 2003.

In her last year she did her 12 months internship at the Instituto Superior Técnico ( Center of Structural Chemistry , Lisbon ) doing research in the field of organometallic synthesis with photochromic ligands for Non Linear Optics applications. Since then Rita has also worked at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB, Oeiras) in the Biosensors/Biodiagnostics Lab, also synthesising organometallic compounds based on Palladium/Platinum porphyrins, for use in optical based oxygen sensors.

Rita is, as of October 2006, working as an Early Stage Researcher in the NASCENT Network, based at Queen Mary University of London. Her next three years will be spent working on synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers of metal-ligand complexes using gas nerve agent analogues.
