Sofia Martins

Sofia MartinsSofia was born on 20th December 1981 in Lisbon, Portugal. She studied in "Escola Secundária da Amadora" a city located in the northwest of the Lisbon where she got her high school diploma.

She always showed a great interest in Chemistry and Science in general so she registered at the Chemistry Faculty of the New University of Lisbon where she got her graduate degree in Applied Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry in 2005. She got a scientific researcher fellowship to work at the same University during 2006 in the production and characterization of new PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) composites, and has expertise in organic synthesis, polymer characterization by FTIR, RMN, polarization microscopy and SEM. She has been an Erasmus student for 4 months at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) where she worked in the organic synthesis of enzymatic inhibitors.

On February 1st 2007 Sofia joined the Optical Chemosensors Group and Laboratory of Applied Photochemistry (GSOLFA) at Complutense University of Madrid to begin her PhD within the NASCENT Network, working on the development and manufacture of molecularly imprinted micro and nanostructured polymers for selective applications in catalysis, chemical analysis and sensors. Sofia enjoys yoga, sports, music and going to the cinema and is very happy to be a member of the NASCENT group.
