Silvia Pavan

Silvia PavanSilvia was born in 1984 in Treviso, a town near Venice, Italy.

She graduated in 2009 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Trieste where she performed her 12 months internship at the Anti-infective Peptides Laboratory working on solid phase synthesis, purification, analysis and biological activity of antimicrobial peptides to identify the role of their primary structural features in determining microbicidal properties.

In July 2009 she joined Prof. Benedetti's group at the University of Trieste as a post-graduate fellow. Her research interests focused on the organic synthesis of HIV antiretroviral analogues to obtain libraries of binder peptides for therapeutic drug monitoring.

In January of 2010 she began her PhD in same field and since February she started training in synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers of HIV antiretroviral drugs in the NASCENT Network based at Queen Mary, University of London. Research objectives will be the design and development of new artificial receptors based on nanostructured polymeric materials, on short peptides, or a combination of both, with their interesting potential applications as biosensors.
